Meet Bryan Hodgson: A New Era for USF Men's Basketball
The University of South Florida has named Bryan Hodgson, aged 37, as the new head coach for its men's basketball team, effective March 28, 2025. Hodgson's journey to this position is marked by a unique background that he believes will greatly enhance his coaching ability.
Growing up in foster care from the age of three until he was 14, Hodgson's early experiences shaped his understanding of relationships and the importance of connection in sports. “Relationships are everything to me,” he shared. Hodgson's Coaching Journey and Achievements
Before joining USF, Hodgson had a successful tenure as an assistant coach at multiple universities, including Buffalo and Alabama. His most notable achievement came during his time as head coach at Arkansas State, where he led the Red Wolves to remarkable back-to-back 20-plus win seasons, including a historic 25-win season in his final year.
Hodgson is eager to build upon the foundation set by the late Amir Abdur-Rahim, with whom he emphasizes core values like trust and responsibility. He stated, “Amir embodied every single one of these traits, and we will honor him every day when we step foot in this building.” This speaks to his commitment to the team and its heritage.
